Learning Experience | Through participating in Chinese activities such as the Chinese Drama Week and the Chinese Storytelling Competition, Sabrina has enhanced expression and comprehension skills in Chinese. Sabrina enjoys using the “iLearn Chinese” online learning platform. The cartoons and games on the platform allow her to learn and practice Chinese in a relaxed and joyful manner, and thus her interest in the Chinese language is deepened. |

Studying Path | In 2009, Grant enrolled at Year 1 of YCIS Beijing and studied Chinese on the curriculum of CAL--Level 1. He put in great effort and successfully transitioned to the CFL course in Year 2. He is now studying CFL in Year 3.

Learning Experience | Grant has actively participated in various Chinese activities, including the Chinese Storytelling Competition, performing in Chinese during assembly and being the Chinese host of the 2010 Chinese Spring Festival. |
Chinese Competence | Grant has a very strong ability to express himself in oral Chinese. He can read simple Chinese books independently and write articles with fairly smooth sentences. His performance in the Chinese Storytelling Competition was exceptionally good. |

Learning Experience | Patrick likes to use the “iLearn Chinese” online learning platform very much. Every day, he makes use of the games on the platform to practice the Chinese characters and texts learned on that day.

Chinese Competence | As his knowledge of Chinese radicals increases, Patrick’s interest in Chinese characters also intensifies. He can now write Chinese characters in the proper stroke order. Patrick’s articulation is accurate and fluent. His performance in the preliminary round of the annual Chinese Storytelling Competition was outstanding. The reading ability of Patrick is also improving continuously. He is able to grasp the general idea in a relatively short period of time and give appropriate responses to teachers’ questions. In addition, Patrick is capable of formulating paragraphs of logical written expressions with the use of learned words and sentences. |

Chinese Competence | With accurate Chinese pronunciation, Coco is able to carry out fluent communication with native Chinese people. She was the Chinese host of the New Year performance organized by the school and obtained excellent results in the final round of the annual Chinese Storytelling Competition. Coco’s writing ability is no less impressive. She has a rich vocabulary and neat handwriting, and can use learned words and sentences to formulate relatively long and meaningful written expressions. |

Lee Seung Hyun

Studying Path | In 2004, Seung Hyun joined YCIS Beijing as a Year 5 student and studied CAL--Level 1. He was promoted to Level 2 in the same year and proceeded to Level 3 in Year 6. After entering Secondary Section, Seung Hyun continued and completed Level 3 and Level 4 of CAL in Years 7 and 8. He started to study CFL in Year 9.

Chinese Competence | 2010 IGCSE Chinese (Mandarin)--Foreign Language: A* 2011 IGCSE Chinese--First Language: C Seung Hyun was a winner of the Interschool Chinese Competition (First Language Group B) in both 2009 and 2010. As a representative, he gave a speech during the award ceremony of a speech competition which was open to the whole school. Now, Seung Hyun can confidently speak in Chinese in the school's assembly. |
